This article was originally posted at my old blog. I know I had some grammatical errors and I believe I will still make more mistakes since I'm not a native English speaker but hey, I'm trying.
Yeah, I love the noise of an engine...
The jolt of gearbox...
The smell of burning rubber...
The flavor of racing...
The taste of victory...
The spirit of great passion...
100% commitment...
Everything comes to live with Grand Prix Legends...
Recreating 1967 F1 season...?
Is it even possible...?
Well, Papyrus did a great job...
From the glorious IndyCar Racing series to the popular NASCAR franchise, Papyrus took a giant leap with Grand Prix Legends...
Released in 1998, unfortunately GPL was not a big commercial success...
To run smoothly, the game needed a monster computer when it came out...
Yet a number of patches and fixes were released...
Previously, I have played games/simulators such as Grand Prix 4, GRAN TURISMO series, Race Driver series, Richard Burns Rally, NASCAR series, F1 Challenge '99-'02, and rFactor...
What I heard from race sim community: GPL is worth a try...
Unfortunately, we can't find GPL in store right now...
You can find GPL in torrent or warez sites but I'm not interested...
Yeah, I'm desperately looking for the original GPL in Indonesia, but it fell short...
I can find it on eBay but I can't go for online shopping...
Fortunately, Grand Prix Legends Editor Association is kind enough to bring us GPL 2004 Demo...
The Demo consisted of latest patches, fixes, graphics, and sounds add-ons...
Yeah, I played the Demo and it's enough for me to know how great GPL is...
The car handling is realistic, even though you might always ended up sideways...
There are also some add-ons for the game including 1966 Season, 1969 Season, and Thundercars Mod...
Yeah, there's a magnificent customization tool called GEM+...
Want to play online...?
Get iGOR...
But...
We can't play as one of the legendary drivers but we must create our own driver instead...
There is also lack of restart feature...
Yeah, GPL still gives me a great experience to ride historic Grand Prix cars...
For a simulator released almost 11 years ago, GPL will not die...
Final words: GPL is a LEGEND...
Papyrus, wish you were here...
